Are the Younger Members of Your Staff Feeling Tech Shame

It seems like companies are hiring millennial staff expecting them to be tech savvy. Unfortunately, we are finding that not to be the case. They aren’t as “in tune” as they are assumed to be. Are the younger members of your staff feeling “tech shame” for not knowing everything there is to know about technology?

Even though younger employees are the one’s who grew up on Snapchat, TikTok and Minecraft, they may be always have the skills necessary to instantly adapt to the workspace.

According to a recent study, one in five workers between the ages of 18 and 29 feel judgement when they have technological problems at work.

The solution for these businesses is to provide better training for the entire team. Not just targeted towards the younger workforce. A lot of these Gen Z employees began their positions during the pandemic. Therefore, they have only ever worked in a remote environment.

Training the whole team can help close the skills gaps and give the younger staff the confidence boost they need to provide good work.

Another thought is to provide tools and equipment to your team – particularly if they are working remotely.

Younger employees start with less income and often struggle to purchase at-home office equipment. They are also less likely to speak up about this issue if they are struggling at work.

Your employees are the focal point of your business. Make sure you’re checking in with them. It can have a significant impact on their engagement, productivity, and confidence, even if they aren’t in the office.
